Where are my TV Story ENDINGS?

Why I Watch Established TV Series

The Bowman Family
I know that Gilligan never got off that darn island and I can live with that, but the growing number of television series that pop up, gain your viewing trust, and then disappear into the night has become an epidemic!
Gilligan's Island

I see promos for new series, they sound really cool but before I can check into them a notice is out the Network has pulled the series! Its a business decision, I get that.

HOWEVER, there is a difference in a pilot, add a few episodes of a new series to see if it sticks with audience compared to three seasons of a show. I have invested time.

It's like Goldilocks is just sitting in a chair for no reason and we leave her there forever! Did the bears come back and eat her?
Why do the Networks allow this? Shows that hang us out to dry? To just....stop.

M.A.S.H got it right!

Even Seinfeld had an ending, maybe not a good one, but it ended! I still remember watching M.A.S.H's epic last episode which brought years of story-line to a satisfying conclusion. The End.

This paranoia of beginning new shows has caused me to make a rule -- I watch television series that are established, have good followings and most likely have already had an ending.

It makes it hard to discuss watercooler details from the previous night's episode when something big happens! And spoilers abound everywhere! So no surprises!

However, the USA Network series, Colony starring my favorite, Josh Holloway... I made an exception!

USA Network's alien invasion story was well done, the acting really good and the story intriguing. So, I continued as a loyal fan even when it was hard to find new episodes.

Colony was a show that was getting better each season.

Handsome Josh Holloway leads the cast.
I began to see articles that Colony is critically acclaimed but the ratings are low. I get worried.

AND of course, no surprise...the announcement came.

Then its gone. No ending, no what happened next?
I have only an intense, unsatisfactory end.

Add past shows where I was left hanging, never to know what happened next and it makes us viewers pull back our viewing habits. As a network, you are selling a brand, a product and then you rip it away from the paying customers without any regard. You can't sell products by using disappointment and frustration!
How do you expect us to shop again for your stuff?
This is wrong. Networks should at least in their policy of cancelling TV series, either provide an ending via online, create one last show or season to complete the story. Something!

You are damaging your goods and the trust of following future shows in your Network programming future.

What now? Here we Colony fans sit, wondering...do the aliens have a war? Does Mankind survive? Did Will and his family survive? Will Seattle truly be the Ark of mankind, saving humans from extinction? Is Snyder a good guy or a bad guy?

Ugg. I know there are worse problems in the world, but we use entertainment to get away, escapism.

But, taking away all of our endings is cruel....

Have a backup plan for cancelling your TV Series!!

If you agree, sign my petition to bring Colony back for a Season 4.
Maybe ABC, NBC, CBS, HULU, NETFLIX, HBO, SyFy...or some other network would take the risk of a critically acclaimed show with good writing and good acting to replace some of the real crap out there!
